About Blackburn
In 1975, Jim Blackburn set out to design stronger, lighter, more innovative and more reliable cycling products. The first were bags and racks designed for touring. From there, Blackburn grew. Over the next 30 years, Blackburn's spark of innovation would lead to many revolutionary products, like the first high quality aircraft aluminum rack, the first dual stroke minipump, the first oversized mountain minipump and the first dual stage/dual stroke floorpump just to name a few. For 2005, Blackburn's creative spark is burning brighter than ever. And as we head into our 30th year, Blackburn is re-dedicated to designing smart, reliable, no nonsense accessories that are essential to your riding experience.

Bike Race Motivational Poster Triathalon Ironman Inspirational Art Print
Courage - Bike Race. "DON'T FOLLOW WHERE YOUR PATH MAY LEAD. INSTEAD, MAKE YOUR OWN WAY AND LEAVE A PATH." The print measures 22x28 inches.
We take great pride in making sure your INSPIRATIONAL POSTER arrives to your doorstep in pristine shape. Once the package arrives, there are steps you can take to preserve the quality of the piece. Make sure you wash your hands before opening the tube or envelope. Most of our MOTIVATIONAL ART PRINTS have a black border. The color black on a picture is notorious for absorbing any oily substance that your finger tips may have collected. Once the fingerprint is on, it is difficult to remove. I would suggest rubbing a soft cotton cloth of some sort in a slow circular manner. Don't rub too hard to prevent any scratches.

5150 Zurich Results 2011
Ritchi Nicholls and pre-race favorite Nicola Spirig top 5150 Zurich results 2011.
Many people picked Chris McCormack from Australia to win the 5150 race in Zurich, Switzerland. Considering that Chris is a two-time Ironman World Champion it's easy to see why people felt that way.
However there is a huge difference between a 5150 race and an Ironman Triathlon, and most likely Chris needs more distance in order to race at his best and wear the competition down.
THE RACE
Chris McCormack was in trouble right from the swim/bike transition as he ran into problems and lost valuable time.
It's sort of what I meant by the difference between a 5150 race and an Ironman. A mistake that takes a bit of extra time in an Ironman really does not amount to much, but a 5150 is basically a sprint and small mistakes can make a big difference.
As a result Chris had to really push in order to try and catch up to the leaders. It was a group that included all the other pre-race favorites.
Unfortunately Chris was given a 30-second penalty out on the bike course and that didn't help his cause either. Just the same he had an amazing run but was unable to catch the eventual race winner Ritchi Nicholls from Scotland.
Joshua Amberger from Australia managed to hold off Chris McCormack and took second spot.
As you can see from the final times, the mistake in transition and the time penalty proved costly to Chris.
TOP THREE PRO MEN 5150 ZURICH RESULTS 2011Ritchi Nicholls.............1:47:20Joshua Amberger.............1:48:04Chris McCormack.............1:48:33
The pro women?s race was never in doubt and Nicola Spirig of Switzerland was an easy winner in a time of 2:02:17.
ABOUT THE 5150
This series of races is the newest addition to the WTC family of triathlon events.
Possibly some visitors to this page are not familiar with the 5150. The name was derived from taking the distances of the 1.5k swim, 40k bike, and 10k run that total 51.5K and so the 5150 was the resulting name.
The distances are the distances of the Olympic Triathlon, but the biggest difference between this race and the one you will see in the Olympics is that there is no drafting allowed in the 5150 and there is in the Olympics.
Basically drafting in the Olympics has turned the race into a team event and if you are not with the lead bike group when the bike/run transition is reached it is very difficult to catch up in a race where seconds make a big difference.
Many pro triathletes really enjoy the 5150 format because of the no draft rule. It does not hurt that there is a lot of money at stake in this series of races. The pros that topped the 5150 Zurich results 2011 did pretty well for themselves.

Beijing ITU Grand Final Results 2011
Alistair Brownlee tops the Beijing Grand Final results and Sven Riederer takes second.
The big question and perhaps the most intriguing story-line of the Dextro world Championship Triathlon Series is most likely "is Paula Findlay healthy and completely recovered from her injury?"
Most likely Paula is recovered as far as her injury so the second question becomes "has Paula had enough time to regain her pre-injury form?
The same form that had her on top of the points ranking and on her way to the London Olympics in 2012.
Paula raced well in Kelowna but came up short, but she will most likely be more than ready for her best effort in Beijing and could well win the race.
I saw her race in Kelowna when she came in second to Sarah-Anne and you just know that this is one athlete that does not like to lose.
It is that killer instinct that is so essential when one is competing on the world stage, no matter what the sport.
Paula needs a top-eight finish in order to win a spot on the Canadian Olympic team for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
She will do that and more because she has the ability and desire to take her to the top of the world.
Regrdless of the outcome of the race, you just know that Paula will leave all she has to give out on the course and what more can any fan of Paula Findlay ask?
How about the men's race?
It seems that everywhere I read it appears that Alistair Brownlee, Jonathon Brownlee, or Javier Gomez are the only three men who have any hope of winning the race.
Usually that means that means that none of them will and someone comes from out in left field and surprises everyone.
I would never be too quick to discount Simon Whitfield. I watched him win handily in the Kelowna Apple triathlon in August.
However he is up against the best in the world in Beijing and he may not be able to sustain what is sure to be a very fast run pace that the Brownlee's are sure capable of.
Look for Simon to be with the lead group of cyclist.
Also very little mention of Alexander Bryukhankov of Russia who could come up big in this race and upset the Great Britain apple-cart.

Looks like another race(like London)where rain and the wet, slippery conditions it brings on the bike course will be a factor.
THE RACE
As expected the first three out of the water are Alistair Brownlee, Jonathan Brownlee, and Alexander Brukhankov.
The swim split might have been pretty fast, but caution is probably going to be the key word on the bike course. One bad fall could spell the end of the race for any of these athletes.
Early on in the race there is a lead pack of around 40 riders, and it's going to be pretty hard for anyone to make a clean break with the roads as slick as they are.
This race will come down to who can maintain the pace on the run and it will be a torrid one.
Simon Whitfield is in the main pack as they reach the second transition as expected, but will he be able to keep up in the run?
Alexander Bryukhankov of Russia has a good shot at the podium as the run begins and is right there with the Brownlee's from GBR.
Going into the final lap of the bike the Brownlees looked strong and were right at the front all the way to the final transition.
Russia had five in the lead group and it appeared that Kyle Jones from Canada was no longer in contention. For Canada that left Brent McMahon and Simon Whitfield as the run leg began.
Alistair was the strongest of the Brownlee's and he takes the win in Beijing with Jonathon in a tight race for second with Sven Riederer.
Rieder takes second with Jonathan coming in third.
THE TOP 12 FINISHERS IN THE MEN'S RACE1. ALISTAIR BROWNLEE2. SVEN RIEDERER 3. JONATHAN BROWNLEE 4. DMITRY POLYANSKY 5. LAURENT VIDAL 6. JAVIER GOMEZ 7. DAVID HAUSS 8. VINCENT LUIS 9. MAIK PETZOLD 10. IVAN RANA 11. JONATHAN ZIPF 12. ALEXANDER BRYUKHANKOV
Calories Burned Biking
Calories burned biking can reach high levels much quicker than most physical activities because you are actually propelling a machine. Of course there are variables like terrain and weather conditions.
It seems that there are lots of of variables to consider when trying to come up with a reasonably accurate number of calories burned during biking or any other physical activity or sport for that matter.
If you look at the basic figures, an average-sized man will normally burn about 15 calories a minute just sitting still. A woman will burn a little less or say about 12 calories.
It seems that the younger we are, the better our ability to burn calories and that partially explains why many people gain weight as they grow older.
When we are younger we might be capable of ingesting around 3500 calories and burning it off in the course of the day and maintain an average weight.
However, as we age that figure may drop to 2000-2500 calories per day. So regardless of how we are burning calories, it would make sense to eat a little less as we get older.
Over the many years that I trained month after month for the the next Penticton Ironman Triathlon coming up I believe that the amount of calories burned during a bike training session were far greater than the calories burned swimming or running.
All I have to go on is how much I had to eat on those long bike rides to keep from having an energy bonk.
It's not something that was ever a problem on a three hour run, but it sure seemed that it always was in the bike, so it makes sense that the calories burned biking were probably higher amounts than any of the other training I did at the time.
I'm sure it would be in the ballpark to say that the average amount of calories that a person burns biking would be around the 600-700 calories per hour mark.
I believe you would darn near have to run at a race pace of 10-6 minute miles or 10MPH "for one hour" in order to burn that many calories running.

First Ironman Doubts
Having first Ironman doubts is to be expected. You are embarking on a life-changing adventure that will test you in many ways.
The training is all behind you now.Your attempt at Ironman immortality is at hand. All the demons are beginning to surface and self-doubt is leading the way. Followed closely by that inevitable question, "what on earth have I gotten myself into?"
Fear not.
It's quite possible that pretty well every novice Ironman has exactly those same feelings as the big day arrives.
There seems to be a couple of reasons why almost everyone deals with this same issue. For one thing, you've put an immense amount of time and effort into your preparation.
You've given up a lot and most likely family and social life have been put on hold.
The thought of failing and letting down everyone who has supported your preparation can become overwhelming if you dwell on it. Of course, the ultimate goal is to reach the elusive finish line, but keep in mind the long list of accomplishments you have achieved by reaching the start line.
Maybe you had to learn how to swim, or had never been anywhere near a triathlon bike, but now can ride for miles. Possibly you were a bit out of shape and not particularly pleased with what you saw when you looked in the mirror.
Maybe your self-confidence was at a pretty low ebb. Let's face it, sometimes life can get a little stagnant and repetitive and it seems nothing will ever change it.
Then one day, something pretty amazing happened. You were"Ironstruck." Something moved you about this event and a spark was ignited that brought about a stunning metamorphosis.
Well, look at you now!
You have certainly come a long, long way.
You are most likely in the best shape of your life. You have a better understanding of diet and nutrition, training and resting and of sacrifice and accomplishment.
You are already a new, improved version of yourself and as result have done something very special for those who care about you. All this, and you have yet to start the race. You simply cannot fail, because of what you have already accomplished, you have won.
So, don't fear the Ironman. Embrace it. Go to the waters edge with confidence.
Feel the remarkable power, spirit and exhilaration that builds as anticipation makes way for action.
Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone, and at that singular moment in time, you are an integral part of the fittest single group of people in the world.
Have confidence in your preparation. You have earned the right to participate. That spark that was ignited months ago has led you down this path.
Welcome the challenge and soon you will come to know what you aretruly capable of. You will leave your comfort zone and surpass physical, mental and emotional limits that you would never have thought possible.
Soon, that tiny spark that was kindled so long ago will become a glow that will stay with you forever.

Healthy Diet Plan
A healthy diet plan is determined by many factors and it's not always determined by how many calories one eats. The quality of the calories and fitness also play a big role.
The days are long gone when people should spend time counting the calories they are eating as the main way to lose weight.
REGULAR EXERCISE AND DIET
A diet plan seems to make more sense and is more lasting if a regular fitness plan is included right along with making better food choices.
A perfect example of a fitness plan that many people have been drawn too over the past few decades especially is running to lose weight and how running burns calories.
It's great because you can start out walking, than power-walking, and as fitness improves, begin running. Many people who start out with plans of dieting to lose weight actually end up becoming accomplished runners because they enjoy it so much and feel so good they don't want to gain the weight back.
Some people get so excited about their new-found fitness and endurance that they might even look into sprint triathlons and in the process learn lots of new skills.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Don't under-estimate the value of some foods and drinks we take for granted, or perhaps to the other extreme, food we know nothing about.
For instance a healthy diet should include sufficient amounts of water, because there are many benefits of drinking water that people are not aware of and the roll it can play in our over-all health should not be under-estimated.
However, there is a healthy balance and it is possible to drink too much water. Water is a perfect example of something that is essential, but more is not necessarily better.
Have you every tried olive oil in your diet? What a great addition to a healthy diet plan.
Olive oil is a far healthier choice than pretty well any other oil on the market except for perhaps one. There are too many olive oil benefits to mention in a few sentences.
The same can be said for coconut oil. Not only is it great tasting, the benefits of coconut oil are amazing.
It's the first oil I ever tried that actually helped me lose weight. Better yet, it tastes great as well.
FOODS WE THINK ARE BAD
If ever a food has gotten a bad wrap, it's eggs. Finally however, people are figuring out that eggs can be part of a healthy diet plan.
The biggest problem has been that people never truly understood eggs. They just read that there is a lot of fat in those yolks, so they must be bad.
That theory has been proven false over the past few years and benefits of egg nutrition is finally being accepted.
Like pretty much every thing else, eggs should be eaten in moderation, but there are few foods that are a better source of protein.
Coffee if another much-maligned nutritional source of energy and can also be included as part of a healthy diet plan. Athlete coffee drinkers figured this out a long time ago and have used it to enhance athletic performance for years.
As far as losing weight, if coffee increases your endurance and energy levels, than it only stands to reason that it will enable you to exercise longer and as a result, help you burn calories.
HOLIDAY DIETING
We could all use a holiday diet plan in order to avoid taking a step backward.
It's fine to have a healthy diet plan, but it's important to maintain it over the holiday season as well. It doesn't mean you can't enjoy a turkey dinner. It means simply making some better choices.

homemade squat rack
A homemade squat rack might seem like a great idea to some people, but might not be the wisest course of action.
Although it seems like a great plan at first, after I searched all over the internet, checked out fitness centers, and asked people who know about construction involving wood and steel and heavy weights, I have come to one conclusion.
It simply makes no sense to attempt to build your own rack. Even if you have the necessary know-how and the ability to build one, it's simply not cost effective.
Besides, you most likely want to have a piece of weight lifting equipment in your home that looks good and functions properly.
Obviously not everyone has the talent to put together a homemade squat rack that has a professional look and meets all the necessary safety requirements.
Remember that if someone else uses your squat rack and injures themselves because of poor construction, that you could be liable.
It a homemade squat rack is really what you want, then it's best to have someone with the proper construction skills help you build it.
If not, then it might be a better plan to find yourself a good used professionally build squat rack.
This is especially true when you can most likely pick up a used one in excellent shape for a hundred dollars or even less.
As far as the sport of triathlon goes, I believe the squat is one of the best exercises one can do.
It simply makes you more powerful out on the bike course and makes the transition from biking to running a whole lot easier.
I can remember the year I put tons of effort into doing squats and at 150 pounds of body weight was squatting very close to 400 pounds at one point at that was pretty well where I maxed out.
About two or maybe three of those and I reached the failure point and it was the safety features on the fitness equipment that would enable me to do squats without a spotter.
I can't even begin to imagine trying that on a homemade piece of equipment all alone in my basement. (Especially if it was something that I built).
It's just not worth the potential for injury and anyone seriously considering building their own should really consider looking into buying a new one or used one in good condition.

Ironman Antwerp 70.3 Results 2011
Sophie Goos and Bart Aernouts come out on top of Ironman Antwerp 70.3 Results 2011 for a Belgium sweep once again and both retain their Ironman Antwerp crowns.
It was a Belgium sweep for the men and women pros in 2010 but it may be difficult to repeat as there are some very good pros who will challenge for the top spot in the Ironman Antwerp 70.3 results 2011.
It's great to see Natascha Badman entered in the race. It has been a long road back since she crashed out on the Queen K. Highway during Iroman Hawaii 2007.
It just goes to show you how fit and strong triathlon can make a person.
After the accident she hears "your triathlon days are over" from doctors yet here she is. I would love to see her on the podium.
Here are last years winners and as you can see Bart Aernouts and Sophie Goos have both returned to defend their Antwerp 70.3 titles.

THE RACE
There was a big difference in the way the male and female pro swim splits turned out. For the men it was a tightly bunched group that headed out on the swim course together.ALEX ZEEBROEK held a 4 second lead coming out of the water.

When the pro men reached the first bike split things were shaken up a bit. The two leaders coming out of the water ALEX ZEEBROEK and SEAN DONNELLY were still together, but OLLIE WHISTLER was catching up to them and BART AERNOUTS and ROMAIN GUILLAUME were falling off the pace.

On the women's side SOFIE GOOS is beginning to take charge and pulls away from MICHELLE VESTERBY and SOPHIE DE GROOTE.
THE RUN
ALEX ZEEBROEK, BART AERNOUTS, MARKUS FACHBACH, ROMAIN GUILLAUME, and IAN LEITCH were the first five out on the run course with Bart still holding the lead, but only 4 minutes separated the top four places so at this point anyone of them had a shot at winning and topping the Ironman Antwerp 70.3 results 2011.
The lead for Alex begins to decrease and 6km into the run defending champion Bart Aernouts was only 1:30 behind.
For the women SOFIE GOOS is out on the run course by herself and has a good chance of beating this field of women pros and taking her second consecutive Ironman Antwerp 70.3 title in her home country.
However she will have to fight off a few challenges. Sofie Goos leads her compatriot Sophie De Groote by 1:18. Vesterby is third at 2:51, Badmann fourth at 5:56 at the first check-point in the run.
BART AERNOUTS has come on strong and takes over the lead late in the run over his countryman ALEX ZEEBROEK. One thing is certain now. A Belgium will win this race as the rest of the field has fallen off the pace and third place is 4 minutes away from the leaders.
BART AERNOUTS and SOFIE GOOS are on top of the Ironman Anwtwerp 70.3 race results 2011 as they both win once again!
Bart Aernouts wins Ironman Antwerp in a time of 3 hours 45 minutes and 47 seconds. Zeebroek is second in 3:48:24, Fachbach third in 3:54:30, and Guillaume was fourth in 3:55:11.

Ironman Austria 2011
Ironman Austria 2011 will be enjoying it's 13th running and features an extremely fast course. Canadian Peter Reid of Canada completed this course in an amazing 7:51:56 in 1999 when he was in the prime of his career. In 2010 Marino Vanhoenacker of Belgium just missed breaking Peter's time with his 7:52:05.
Check my Ironman Austria results 2011 page and see how the race unfolded resulting in a world record.
THE PRO WOMEN FAVORITES OF IRONMAN AUSTRIA 2011
Several of the top pro women expected to challenge for the win are having off years to this point.
Barbara Tesar was involved in a bike accident and it has been a set-back for her this year.
Edith Niederfriniger from Italy has been on the podium four times and is expected to challenge for the win on Sunday July 3rd. She is very familiar with the course and knows what it will take to win.
Hungarian Erika Csomor has not been entered in Ironman Austria since 2004.
The favorite going into the race is Eva Dollinger who was the 2010 Ironman Austria champion. However she is not at her peak of fitness this year and repeating as champion could be very challenging.
Personally I am going to go with Erika Csomor to be right up there and possibly be the first pro women in Ironman Austria 2011.
THE PRO MEN FAVORITES OF IRONMAN AUSTRIA 2011
Flo Kriegl has only two starts as a pro and is not expected to challenge for the win.
That honor will go to the favorite Marino Vanhoenhacker of Belgium who has won this race 4 times. In fact he looks practically unbeatable, but the Ironman is always full of surprises and Marino will be challenged.
Max Renko has raced here before but it did not turn out too well for him and going into the race has hopes of putting pressure on Marino.
Perhaps the biggest challenge of all will come from local favorite Michael Weiss. As a matter of fact he is my pick to cause an upset and win Austria 2011.
Yes, I could be completely wrong, but it's always more fun to follow the race when you try and pick the winner.
THE SWIM COURSE courtesy of Ironman Austria home page
Except for the fact that the Ironman Austria course is counter-clockwise, it sort of has similarities to the Ironman Canada course in Penticton.
It is one loop just like Ironman Canada and has a long leg with a left-hand turn into a shorter leg and another left-hand turn into the final portion of the swim course.
The only difference is that in Ironman Canada there are two right-hand turns as the course travels in a clock-wise direction.
It seems that these days, most of the newer Ironman courses consists of two loops.
THE BIKE COURSE courtesy of Ironman Austria home page
The bike course consists of two loops.
There are not really any monster hills on this course and it will favor those bikers who excel on the flats. It would be unusual to see the finish time over 8:10 as it seldom is.
Contrary to what many people think, not every pro Ironman prefers a flat course and there are those who are great climbers and actually avoid the flatter courses.
THE RUN COURSE
The run course could not possibly any flatter and there are sure to be some very fast marathon times on race-day.
The run will take the athletes past Ironman City five times and that means tons of support when it's needed the most.
As with most Ironman races, this one is sold out. That means not just a lot triathletes, but also lots of supporters who will provide an inspirational lift.
Have to admit that a two-loop course is much better for the spectators as they get to see their favorite athletes several times over.
There are 50 Kona qualifying spots up for grabs for the age-groupers and there will be some excited people on their way to Hawaii when the dust settles over Ironman Austria 2011

However 2nd place did not last much longer for Diana Riesler as she was passed by Erika Csomor who moved into second place ahead.
Now the gap has grown to over 11 minutes from the leader Mary Beth.
At 21.5k the gap was over 9 minutes and it seemed at this point that the main focus for Marino was holding it together and breaking the world record as there was little doubt that he would top Ironman Austria results 2011 in just over an hour.

Ironman Boulder 70.3 Results 2011
Joe Gambles beats an impressive field of pro men and tops the Ironman Boulder 70.3 results 2011.
Ironman 70.3 Boulder takes place at the Boulder Reservoir and just by taking a look at the highly competitive pro start list for men and women it's apparent that it's a favorite destination for many of them.
There were several top triathletes who were entered in this race earlier, but have withdrawn.
Ben Hoffman comes off a big race just two weeks ago in Lake Placid and it would have left him little recovery time from one race to the next.
Melissa Rollison also withdrew and she was coming off a win in the Vineman.
PRO MENPotts, Andy Cartmell, Fraser Umphenour, Joe Rhodes, Bryan Ambrose, Paul Gambles, Joe Millward, Callum Anderson, Gavin Jones, Jordan Lampret, Freddy Tissink, Raynard Middaugh, Josiah Milam, Jared Seng, Brad Nelson, Kirk Elliot, Lewis Russell, Matthew Jessop, Brandon Delsaut, Trevor Graves, Philip Hackett, Stephen Vondracek, Jesse Wade, Robert Zyemtsev, Viktor
In this race there are many at least 8 men who are capable of winning today on their best effort.
However it really looks like Andy Potts will be tough as he is in great form and comes off of a victory in the Vineman 70.3
Paul Ambrose might also do well as he has a win this year in the Racine 70.3 and a second place finish in the Rhode Island 70.3
Joe Gambles, Fraser Carmell, Bryan Rhodes, and Raynard Tissink are all capable of challenging for top spot in this race.
THE PRO WOMENWilliamson, Kelly Gregory, Caroline Naeth, Angela Sym, Christie Lovato, Amanda Garcia, Whitney Bromme, Uli Saab, Talita Harrison, Lauren Chong, Jessica McDonald, Marilyn Van Der Merwe, Natasha
Kelly Williamson appears to be in top form and it will take a special effort by someone to beat her today.
Kelly has a win already this year in the Buffalo Springs 70.3
The swim is a one-loop course in the Boulder Reservoir and the water temperatures are expected to be around the 70 degree mark which is pretty comfortable.
The Bike is also two-loops and has a bit of everything with some fast flat sections, some rollers, and a good climb which the athletes get to do twice.
The run is quite unique as it takes place mainly on dirt and gravel roads and it is also two loops.
There is very little shade and this could become a problem as the temperatures are predicted to be near 90 degrees.
THE RACE IS ON!
It is Joe Gambles who asserts himself in the swim and leaves the swim/bike transition with the lead.
Joe might just surprise a few people and is flying a bit under the radar today with all the top triathletes in the race today who are coming off impressive wins in other races this year.
THE TOP FIVE MEN IN THE SWIMGambles, Joe 00:24:13 Cartmell, Fraser 00:24:00 Rhodes, Bryan 00:24:04 Ambrose, Paul 00:24:06 Tissink, Raynard 00:25:33

THE BIKE
Joe Gambles had a great start to the race and maintains his lead at the bike/run transition.
However the heat could become a factor if he pushed to hard and Fraser Cartmell, Bryan Rhodes, and Paul Amborose are well within striking distance if Joe lets up at all out on the dusty country road.
TOP FIVE MEN AT THE BIKE/RUN TRANSITIONGambles, Joe 02:03:35 Cartmell, Fraser 02:03:48 Rhodes, Bryan 02:06:04 Ambrose, Paul 02:06:08 Tissink, Raynard 02:04:21
Wow! I don't think anyone saw this coming! Angela Naeth has a great bike split and has a huge gap on the rest of the women pros.
At this point it would take a huge meltdown by or a spectacular run by Kelly or Amanda to catch Angela.
TOP WOMEN AT THE BIKE/RUN TRANSITIONNaeth, Angela 02:14:23 Williamson, Kelly 02:23:03 Lovato, Amanda 02:23:02 Garcia, Whitney 02:22:22 McDonald, Marilyn 02:20:30
Joe Gambles hangs on to his lead and tops the Ironman Boulder 70.3 Results with a time of 03:45:35!
THE TOP FIVE PRO MEN
There were several surprises in this race. First of all Andy Potts was far off the pace and he has been racing well this year for the most part.
Viktor Zyemtsev seemed to have problems right from the swim so perhaps he is dealing with an injury. Gambles, Joe 00:24:13 02:03:35 01:15:50 03:45:35Tissink, Raynard 00:25:33 02:04:21 01:19:25 03:51:41Ambrose, Paul 00:24:06 02:06:08 01:20:53 03:53:01Umphenour, Joe 00:24:03 02:07:22 01:20:22 03:54:03Russell, Matthew 00:30:42 02:04:59 01:17:41 03:55:44
Raynard Tissink had a solid bike and run and moved up into second place.
What a great performance by Joe Gambles who was strong in all three events and had a spectacular run to top off his day.
Kelly Williamson just came flying after Angela Naeth out on the run course and just about caught her, but Angela was tough today and held on to the lead and wins Ironman Boulder 70.3.
Kelly is having a great year as she notches another podium finish and should be getting right up their in the World Championship points standings.Angela Naeth 00:28:32 02:14:23 01:25:11 04:10:31Kelly Williamson 00:26:12 02:23:03 01:21:10 04:12:42

Ironman Calgary 70.3 Results 2011
Timothy O'Donnell and Tenille Hoogland are the favorites to top Ironman Calgary 70.3 results 2011.
This weeks Ironman 70.3 takes place in my home town of Calgary, Alberta.
THE COURSE
I remember in the inaugural event a few years ago that the biggest fear for most was that the water would be ice cold.
Ghost Lake is fed from Mountain run-off like most lakes in the area. However it did not appear to be a problem for most.
The weather is nothing short of perfect today with clear blue skies and there will be a great view of the Rocky Mountains as the athletes make their way along the point-to-point bike course in this 2 transition zone race.
The swim venue at Ghost Lake is 45k west of Calgary.
Pro Tim O?Donnell actually calls the Ghost Lake swim one of his favorite swim courses. Tim was the 2009 Calgary 70.3 champion and is back to take on the course one more time.
It's very hard not to pick Tim as the favorite in this race, but my feeling is that Canadian Tom Evans could do very well in this race as well.
The bike course is point-to-point and will be challenging with it's many rolling hills. The course will take the athletes East towards Glenmore Reservoir.
The out-and-back run course follows the reservoir as well as parts of the Weaslehead Natural Reserve Park.
I have trained and raced up there many times over the decades and from many parts of the run course the athletes will be able to see the Calgary skyline off in the distance.
THE MALE PROS
Tim O?Donnell sure looks like the one to beat as he attempts to get back the title that Kieran Doe won last year.
So how good is Tim. He is on top of the Kona pro rankings and also the 70.3 rankings as well. It is going take a very special effort by someone if they hope to catch Tim and top the Ironman Calgary results 2011.
Kieran Doe is also back to defend his 2010 title. Kieran also won his first Ironman in Penticton in 2007, so triathlons in Canada have been good to him.
Home crowd favorite Tom Evans comes off a podium finish in IRONMAN COEUR D'ALENE 2011
Jordan Rapp is also competing and could have something to say before the day is done. He could very well challenge for the win here in Calgary.

In the women?s race there are several pros that stand out and could end up on top of the Calgary 70.3 results 2011.
Canadian Sara Gross is sure to be the crowd favorite. Her season started out slow but two wins at the 70.3 in June will have her confidence level at a high today and I expect she will challenge for the win today.
However she will be up against the likes Tenille Hoogland who looks to be in fine form coming into today's race.

Wetsuits are permitted and recommended as the water is expected to be 18-20C or 65-70F which strangely enough is the same temperature as the water at Ironman UK in Bolton that is also underway today.

It was right about here that it became clear that something was not quite right with Tom Evans. Tom was right there in the swim and I'm not sure what happened after that. As I said earlier long before the race start, I felt Tom would be a huge factor in the Ironman Calgary 70.3 results at the end of the day.
I'm thinking it could be one of two things. He may have had mechanical problems as he was far off his best bike times. Or perhaps his huge effort in Ironman Coeur d'Alene took it's toll and he may have decided that it just was not his day.
Whatever the case he is a very class act for finishing the race despite not making it into the top ten.
This image is of Jordan Rapp finishing the race in second place>>>>>>>
Near the end of the bike leg Tenille Hoogland was well in front of Sara Gross of Canada and looked like she would be hard to catch as she started out on the run course with a lead of over 4 minutes. Mackenzie Madison was in third place and Danelle Kabush in fourth.
There was a bit of a shake-up in the women's standing as they headed out for the run. Sara had slipped to third spot.

It was pretty hard not to go with Timothy O'Donnell as the favorite to win this race. He is in amazing form and should be a real force when Fall and Ironman Hawaii time rolls around.
It was a real treat having him take part in the Ironman Calgary 70.3 race as he is obviously one of the most outstanding Ironman pros in the world today.
He is in a league all his own. Jordan Rapp should also be congratulated on a great race as he took second spot in a strong pro field.
In the women's pro race, Sara Gross has pulled back a few minutes on the leader Tenille Hoogland by the 10k mark, but Tenille still had a substantial lead with about half of the run course left to cover.

WOW! What a finish! Tenille Hoogland holds on to win by just 6 seconds over Sara Gross who came charging at the end. What an amazing race by Sara and gutsy race by Tenille for managing to hang on.
It looked like Tenille Hoogland had a safe lead as they started the run course, but Sara might just have had her best 70.3 run ever and fell just short at the end.
Tenille Hoogland is our 2011 Viterra Ironman 70.3 Champion. She narrowly won her very first Ironman 70.3 race by holding off the charging Sara Gross by 6 seconds! A great finish.

Milos had a swim time of 53:40 a bike of 2:50:58 and a run of 1:51:42.
Simply Amazing. How can we not be inspired by Milos and come to the realization that age need not be a barrier in all that we strive to do.
I know there are many of you who were attempting your first Ironman 70.3 distance on July 31, 2011 in Calgary.
I have met many of you and I'm happy to say that some of you have used Ironstruck as your guide as you make your way in your amazing journey.
Regardless of how the day went you should be very proud of making it to the start line. It takes courage, self-confidence, and a lot of hard work to reach that point for the first time.
So if you have a vision and a dream of reaching the Ironman finish line one day you can only imagine how it will feel when the morning arrives down the road when you are waiting for the start gun........perhaps at Ironman Canada.
Can you do it? Of course you can if it's in your heart and you are truly Ironstruck. You have already shown by your performance on this day that you have it within you.
Congratulations on your spectacular performance and best of luck in your triathlon journey over the years to come.

*** "I wrote to you sometime last year, when I was debating whether or not to use a mountain bike for my first attempt at Ironman. You wrote a both sensible and encouraging reply.
In the end, I opted to purchase a road bike. I've forwarded you the story of how my race went, but most of all I wanted to say thanks again for your book Ironstruck, which I read and re-read a bunch of times, and which was by far my favorite of all of the half dozen or so I read during the course of my training."
All the best,Eric

I just completed my first Ironman in St. George, UT. Your book, Ironstruck - 500 Ironman Questions and Answers, was invaluable in preparing me to get to the finish line. I didn't get any surprises during the race, thanks to the info you provided in your book.
Also, your advice about pushing big gears over the tops of hills to gain more speed going down was spot on. I made the bike cut-off in large part to this advice.
Thanks again for a great book and insight!

hi Ray,About 5 years ago just moved from Holland to SA Port Elizabeth I was a spectator of Ironman SA and said to myself I want to do such an event myself onetime.Looking for more info I came across Ironstruck and had a lot of pleasure in reading your stories and I want to compliment you the way you describe these. I also wrote you an email asking you some questions and got response. I know its years ago but I just want to tell you that this year I finished the 70.3 East London 7.10 hrs and Ironman SA 13:10 hrs.And will do it next year again and 12.5 hrs will be my goal.rgds Cees
When I think of all the people I have heard from over the past few years who have said my two Ironstruck books helped them realize their Ironman dream I am beginning to think they have gotten more people to the Ironman finish line than any triathlon book in the world.
"Ironstruck...The Ironman Triathlon Journey" is a perfect book for those who have the Ironman on their mind and perhaps need some motivation, inspiration, and encouragement to help them make that final decision to challenge the Ironman and make it to the finish line.
"Ironstruck? 500 Ironman Triathlon Questions and Answers" is most like the only Q+A book in the world on the subject of triathlon in general and the Ironman.
This is the perfect book for the triathlete who has decided to take on the Ironman for the first time, or perhaps has done one or two and would like some insight from a different point of view.
It is a great companion book for "Ironstruck...The Ironman Journey" and the pair of books would make a great gift.

Milos Kostic.........................5:46:49
