Ironman Mallorca 70.3 Results 2011

Andreas Raelert and Emma-kate Lidbury top Ironman Mallorca 70.3 Results 2011 in the inaugural race for this newest member of the Ironman 70.3 family.

There is nothing like an inaugural Ironman or Ironman 70.3 and it's a special time for race organisers, volunteers, and the athletes who have chosen to take part in the event.

what a great setting as well for Ironman Mallorca 70.3. This stunning island in the Mediterranean Sea has long been a great training destination for some of the world's best triathletes, and not some of then get to race there.

Thomas Hellriegel and Andreas Raelert, both from Germany, are two of the favorites as the race gets set to take place.

Faris Al-Sultan appears to be the other threat to make the top of the podium.

For the pro women, it seems to be more of a wide open race. Some of the favorites going into the race are Erica Csomor from Hungary, Heleen Bij de Vaate from the Netherlands, and Britain's Yvette Grice.

Unlike some of the Ironman 70.3 races this season it's quite a big pro women's field and there are several others including Meike Kebs from Germany who can end up on top of the Ironman Mallorca 70.3 results 2011.

This will no doubt be one of those Ironman races that will become a favorite in years to come. This year alone there are over 1800 athletes entered from over 45 countries.

There is little doubt it will a very enjoyable swim, but the bike course is a tough one and really favors the climbers.

THE RACE IS ON

It was no surprise at all to see the favorite Andreas Raelert be first out of the water in this race. His time of 22:35 was a good one and the only one that seemed able to stay with him was Bertrand Billard.

What was surprising however was to see that Billard was able to stay with him on a tough bike course as they hit the run together.

Basically it looked like it would come down to the one who could sustain what was sure to be a very brisk pace out on the run course.

It looked to be a two-man race at this point as the nearest one to them holding down third place was almost 5 minutes behind at the bike/run transition.
